I welcome commissions from people looking to transform a favorite photograph into a painting, and will endeavor

to capture the essence of each image with a flair of style all my own.

How to get a commission started...

THE PROCESS & TERMS:           

#1. Choose your size & background -  You chose your preference of size and background preference. 11 x 14 , 12 x 16, 16 x 20 or other.

#2.  You send your photos -  I work from your high resolution reference photo files with good lighting. I need to SEE details and nuances and with small files it's nearly impossible to get a true likeness. I will give you a link for you to upload your full size photos to. (Emailing compresses the files too much). 

About Photos:  I prefer to work from a clear image, preferable digital and in Jpeg format. Please note:  The photograph must be your own, and not one uploaded from the internet (Photographic websites, Google images/Flickr.com etc)  

#3.  Preliminary design idea -   I go to work creating the preliminary design and email it to you for your approval. 

#4.  Commission Agreement -  After initial design approval, I will send you the Commission Agreement with pricing and my signature. You sign and return the 'Commission Agreement' via email or USPS mail to me at the address on the paperwork.

#5.   Initial 25% Deposit  - With the Commission Agreement, you send 25% deposit of total  in the Agreement via Check or PayPal, & via email or USPS mail. 

#6.   Mid Inspection and 50%payment -  I email you photos of approximately 50% of the Work completed; Then with your approval of the progress of you will be invoiced for another 50%. 

#7.   Upon Completion - Upon completion and approval, you will be invoiced for the remaining 25% balance PLUS shipping, insurance. Final amount including shipping to be paid before it is shipped. 

 

TIMING:

The time frame for completion of work from the time the Commission agreement is in place:  2 - 8 weeks depending on how many commissions are ahead of you. (In exceptional circumstances, shorter time frames are a possibility with advanced notice).If you have a time deadline if this is a gift or for framing, please left me know when you need it in the initial contact.  Every effort will be made to get it finished for you when you need it. 


PRICES:

Prices vary. Particulars affecting price include:

  • Size - 11 x 14 , 12 x 16, 16 x 20 or custom requested size.
  • Background:  Whether you want a plain white, a soft color background, or a completely detailed scene of a favorite place, etc.  
  • In general, I do watercolor of everything except animal portraits- but pricing runs the same in watercolor as pastel pieces for sizing and complexity.

  • 12" x 16" head portrait with a single dog with WHITE  background .............................................................$350
  • 12" x 16" Full body portrait (such as shown above) with a single dog with full background.....................$475
  • 12" x 16" Full body, 2 subjects with a soft or white background ..................................................................$500
  • 12" x 16" Full body, 2 subjects with a FULL scene background .....................................................................$575
  • 16" x 20" Full body, single dog with full background......................................................................................$525
  • 16" x 20" Full body, 2 subjects with a FULL scene background ...................................................................$650

       Notes:

      Keep in mind the larger the painting, the better the detail can be achieved.

      If you have another size or configuration that you would like, please email me for price.

      Prices will be agreed to by both parties in the written 'Commission Agreement' before the Work begins.

 

SHIPPING:

Shipping additional.   I will bill you for the ACTUAL shipping, insurance fees through PayPal invoicing to be paid with payment. The shipping fee is determined by destination of the address on your initial Agreement, unless you instruct me otherwise. 

NOTE:  Add $15 crating fee for a CUSTOM FRAMING option.

 

HOW TO PAY IN STAGED PAYMENTS:  

 After setting up for a commission piece through email with the artist, you will make your deposit and staged payments. There is no 'CART' here for Staged Payment Commissions.

Checks Accepted-  Send the payment to address on the emailed invoices made out to: MARY IRWIN FINE ART.  A receipt will be returned to you by US mail or email if preferred.

PayPal Accepted-

  • PayPal Instructions:
  1. I'll send you a Paypal Invoice to your email for the full amount. You then make 'partial' payments at the requested times
  2. Enter the amount of your payment.
  3. Enter the recipients email address as:  Mary.Irwin.Art@gmail.com
  4. Please add a note stating your name and description of your commission piece- Example: Bob Jones for "Rufus". Payment #1 for 25%, or Bob Jones for "Rufus"Payment #2 for 50% and so on.

  5. The money is directly deposited to the Artist's Paypal account. Paypal keeps track of the declining balance


'SPECIAL COMMISSIONS'    -  GROUP/FAMILY FUNDED

An easy and fun way to give a lasting gift!

At times a groups or family may wish go in together to honor a member with a Commissioned artwork piece.  It is handled like this:

  • The group chooses a primary contact person to communicate with me. The contact person will provide me with high resolution files of a good pose or scene of what is desired.
  • I will provide a photo 'mock-up' (preliminary design idea) of my proposed composition.  
  • The primary contact shall communicate to the group the artists documentation of the purposed composition (Photo) and the PDF Agreement from the artist stating terms and amount charged for such Commission.
  • The Contact person shall notify each of the group individuals how to contribute in the next step.
  • Each Contributors make their donation directly through Paypal to 'Mary.Irwin.Art@gmail.com'. Each incoming contribution will be posted to a Google Documents page within a few hours of contribution. All contributors will have the link to view this Google Doc page by way of return receipt after contribution. The group can thus monitor the amount collected, amount yet needed, and also to verify their own contribution has been accounted for.  Each contributor will have a receipt through a Paypal email.
  • In the rare instance that the procured amount for the Special Commission is NOT achieved in the prescribed time allowed in the Agreement, the primary contact person may ask for an extension of time to complete the amount needed. Otherwise, each donation shall be refunded in full within 48 hours after the deadline for funds has passed.

SATISFACTION GUARANTEED

I want my clients to be completely happy with my work. I believe it is important that you can see how the work is progressing on a regular basis, so I will email progress photos along the way towards completion. For any reason if you change your mind after the first initial 25% deposit- before the painting is one-half done, please be aware that you will lose your initial 25% deposit with no further obligation.

If you are not happy with the completed painting before shipping, you are not obligated to pay the balance of the last payment. Any prior money collected for work stage already completed however, is non-refundable as I have many hours into the work.
